Question 2 years TTC

Hello everyone. I am new to this site. I am just looking for some help. I have tried finding information on the web but I am not the greatest at the computer thing. My husband and I have been ttc for two years as of this month. We have tried all of the predictor kits that you can buy in the store and we have done the butt up in the air by a pillow thing. stopped drinking caffeine and done everything else on the web I have found. The only thing I haven't done is gone to the doctor. That is why I am posting. I want to know if I go to my Obgyn what exactly they can do to help? What I should say? The questions I should ask and if going to my obgyn is what I should do? My husband really wants to have a child on our own but these two years have been kinda hard on me. And I think going to the doctor is the last step I can take. If anyone is in my shoes or has been in my shoes please reply to me and tell me what I should do. Thank you so much for your time.

Re: 2 years TTC

Dear Alicia,
I know exactly where you are and how you feel. My husband and I have been TTC for 14 months with no luck. As soon as I hit 11 months I couldnt take it and I went to the Dr. The only thing I really told her was that we have not used any protection and were TTC.. she didnt act weird or anything like that, but what she did was order blodd tests on me to make sure my hormone levels were okay, then she made me chart my basal body temp (just taking your temps everyday for 3 mos to see a pattern in the rise and fall) and even still..... I didnt and dont ovulate or get a period. She wanted to make sure my husband wasnt shooting blanks so she did a semen analysis, and then at my pap smear she found abnormal cells with proved to be dysplasia by a colposcopy. Now, TTc is harder than ever, and I know my huband wants a baby just as bad as yours does. Its all worth it in the end, but I would suggest going to your doctor, its not as weird or uncomfortable as I thought it would be, and atleast she can put you in the path of acheiving that little one. God Bless you and good luck.

Re: 2 years TTC

Hi Alicia

Definitely talk to your OBGYN. We have been trying for over 3 yrs now, and we just got up the nerve to talk to the dr about it. After a series of tests & procedures, we discovered that he has low counts, and I don't have any working tubes. Let me tell you, it was disappointing to learn that we had problems. But, if we had never went to the dr, we wouldn't be working towards fixing those problems, and we would never have the baby that we want so desperately!! Now at least we are being proactive about it, and we know that being parents is a real possibility for us.

When talking to your dr, all you have to say is that you have been trying for 2 yrs, nothing has happened, and you are getting worried. They will order tests, bloodwork, and take it from there. It is scary to think you might have problems, but it is absolutely worth it if you can fix those problems and make your dream become a reality

Also, you may not even have any problems...it is just better to find out one way or another for sure...

Best of luck to you whatever you decide.

Holly~

Re: 2 years TTC

I am so sorry TTC is taking you so long. We all expect our bodies to work naturally and trying for a baby seems like it should be such a natural thing. I know how surprised I was when I found out that a couple only has a 20% chance of getting pregnant each cycle (and that's even if everything goes the way it should). I haven't hit my year mark yet, but I did ask my doctor what happens at that point. He told me that the first they he'd do is order my DH for a sperm analysis. Then, he would do bloodwork to check hormone levels and possibly have an ultrasound done. I would definitely make an appointment to see an OB/GYN. Family doctors can run tests too, but I've heard of more women have success going directly to OB/GYN's since it is their speciality.

The problem I am having right now is that I don't think I am ovulating -- although I am still having regular 29-31 day cycles. I was on BCP's for 7 years and have only been off them since March. I am seeing an OB/GYN on August 14. I am hoping I can have her test me for that. I am trying to keep my fingers crossed though -- right now I am 2 days late for my AF and have been experiencing a few pregnancy symptoms.

Re: 2 years TTC

How old is everyone here that is trying to have a baby? I am 33 and have not even tried to start yet. Both of my sisters were 34 when they started after being married for 11 yrs.
