Temp'ers: Anyone with higher than normal temps?

Hi girls. I have a question. I just started temping this month and have been checking out other people's charts. Prior to ovulation, most of them record temperatures in the 96 degree range to the low 97 degree range. I have been recording my temps at 6:30 a.m. and all of my temps are in the high 97 degree range. I am using a new basal thermometer. Does this seem high or abnormal to any one else? Thanks and baby dust!

Re: Temp'ers: Anyone with higher than normal temps?

That's high compared to my normal temps. I'm usually in the low to mid 97 degree range. Every woman is different, though.

I'm not trying to alarm you, but I did look this up in my BBT charting book. Toni Weschler says that overly high waking temperatures can be a sign of hyperthyroidism. She says typically pre-ovulatory temps are 97.0-97.5 and post O temps are usually 97.6-98.6. Do keep in mind that these temperature ranges are extremely generalized. Other symptoms of hyperthyroidism she lists are scant menses and long cycles.

Re: Temp'ers: Anyone with higher than normal temps?

Hmmmm, that is something to think about. I do have regular 30 day cycles and pretty heavy AF's the first few days (which I think is normal), but I might bring this up with my OB/GYN. Do you happen to know if only getting 4 hrs. of sleep before temping might be why they are high? Normally, I am not in bed until 2 a.m. and I temp at 6:30 a.m. when my DH's alarm goes off for work. Do you think I should be asleep longer before I temp?

Re: Temp'ers: Anyone with higher than normal temps?

The book says that 3 hours of consecutive sleep is necessary, but I do know that if you are consistently sleep deprived, your temperatures will be higher. Do you normally get up at 6:30, or do you take your temp and go back to sleep?

Re: Temp'ers: Anyone with higher than normal temps?

I take my temp then go back to sleep. I thought about not taking my temperature until 9 a.m. (when I normally get up), but I worry it will mess up my chart at this point if I switch times during the same cycle. However, I am only on CD6 right now and still on AF. Do you think it would be okay to switch at this point and not have it throw things off too much?
