Question TTC while taking meds?

Hello! I'm new with a few questions. I have Crohn's disease. Me and my husband are making a decision on TTC. I think we have decided to go for it, but I haven't talked with my doctor yet. We already have two children which I was untreated at the time of pregnancy. The second pregnancy suffered a little at the end due to my disease. (I went into pre-term labor because my cramping in my colon, but it was stopped and I continued a healthy pregnancy) I think with meds to control it this time around, I shouldn't have any complications. But i'm not positive the meds I'm on are ok with pregnancy. I know of two that I am on I think are safe: Remicaid and Lialda, but right now I am coming off of Prednisone and will likely get back on Entocort. Those are the two i'm worried about. I'm also taking Azasan and am unsure about it as well. I plan on discussing this issue with my doctor before we go through with it, but am really worried he may seem upset with our decision and tell us not to TTC. We really want more kids, atleast one more. Is there anyone out there who has a similar experience? Anyone know anything about these meds?

Re: TTC while taking meds?

I don't know anything about the meds, but my best advice is to look them up on the web. You can usually find a website that is specific to each med. (as long as they're the brand name. if they're generic, search for the name brand and look that up.)

Usually the website will have warnings that go along with the meds. It might say something like "do not take _____ if you are pregnant, nursing, or may become pregnant." At that point, then obviously you should wait.

Basically, remember this: your doctor works for you. He has no right to be upset with you over your decision to want more children. No right at all. He can say "It would be unwise" or "I advise you not to get pregnant" but it's not within his right to actually be angry.

If he IS angry, or he says that it's impossible, then I would suggest seeing another doctor...one that is willing to work with you on different med combinations that would maximize your contraception goals.

Re: TTC while taking meds?

hi, i agree with marine wife,do research on the internet! do lots, on alot of different sites about each of your meds. it might be an idea to research the meds before you go to see the doctor then he will see your serious and know that you know what your talking about!
as for your doctor getting mad, if it wasnt for people getting sick or needing medical advice, doctors wouldnt have jobs lol. they are they to provide you with a service, not the other way around. if you dont feel comfetable talking to your doctor, then my advice would be to find one that you do feel happy with, because after all, you dont want to feel unable to discus things you might need to discus!
hope all goes well for you,
lucii xxx

Re: TTC while taking meds?

Thanks for the advice! I love my doctor, but last Summer he specifically said "do not get pregnant ok", but that was because I landed myself in ER with a major flare up. It's been almost a year since that happened so i'm hoping to get the green light now. I guess i'm just worried because that's the last thing he said about it. I just hope he understands. I will look up the meds too. Thanks again.

No problem...let us know how it works out! I'm curious to hear what he has to say about TTC on medications.
