Question mixed messages

My husband and I had been trying for months but keep getting a negative result. Then a time came when I could feel that I was finally pregnant. We took a Home Pregnancy Test and sure enough it was a positive which was indicated with 2 bright pulsating pink lines. Later that day I went to the doctor to confirm it, and he lectured me about the responibilities of having a baby like I was some knocked up teenager. I did anothre urinary test for them and the same two pulsating pink lines showed up. The doctor didn't even know how to read the test, and the nurse said to both of us that, that line (not the control) means that the test is working, and it should be darker than it was. If the other line was meant to show the test was working, then what other line was there to tell you that you were pregnant? There were to clearly visible lines on both the tests....I live in a rural community so i don't know what the standards for healthcare professionals are...can anyone give me their advice please?

Thanks to all!

Re: mixed messages

Hmmm, I'm confused also! The "control line" by definition is to tell if the test is working appropriately or not, not the other line, so I'm confused by the nurse's statement. Anyway, unless your other line was an evaporation line, it would seem to me that you're pregnant. But you may want to check pictures of evap. lines on the internet. There are various sites where people post home pregnancy tests and you can see the different positives, negatives and evaporation lines, etc. That may help you. But maybe the doctors test is different, I don't know. Did they do a blood test? That's the most reliable test. If not, I'd ask for it, or ask your doctor to clarify the previous test (if he even knows, lol). Good luck.

Re: mixed messages

Well if you took another test and the doctor and nurse looked at the test in the appropriate amount of time and there were two lines..I would say you are pregnant. However seeing that your doctor had no idea how to read the simple stick test I would almost recommend looking into another doctor for the duration of your pregnancy.

Oh the control line generall turns whatever color seconds after you urinate on it. (The instructions in the box will tell you which is the control window which is the result window) if there was a postive line in the result window and the control line was there and a good solid color..then I would say you did it right. CONGRATS on being pregnant!

Re: mixed messages

I agree with the other ladies! Try to find another doctor! Those tests are not rocket science even to a lay man! Since you have done at least two tests and both show two lines, it is highly unlikely that they will be evap lines. Sounds to me like you are pregnant! And how dare that doctor start talking about the responsibilities of parenthood - it is your responsibility and choice!

Regarding the test, the positive line may be fainter if you have tested quite early and as the HCG hormone doubles, the line gets stronger. If the line starts to get fainter then disappears totally, it would indicate a chemical pregnancy, which means the pregnancy wasnt meant to be. Therefore, it is important you monitor it and the best way is to get a blood test, as Heyknack said since they can tell you if your HCG levels are normal or not.

No.1 advice: Please find informed and considerate health care if it is possible! If not, you can learn a lot from people on here. I have
