my first ultrasound showed yolk sac but no baby. My dr also said my progesterone levels were low and put me on prometrium. My LMP was 01/23/08. What are the chances of having a viable pregnancy? I go for another u/s in 2 days.
Re: my first ultrasound showed yolk sac but no baby
When I had my first ultrasound no one would listen to me about my cycles. My LMP was 1/11 but I have long cycles so I ovulate later than normal but no one would listen at the hospital so my first ultrasound showed a sack and that was all I was by lmp 6.5 weeks but by ovulating I wasn't but 5.3 week I went back in 3 days and the baby was there just a shadow but still there and the dr understood my cycle problem and I measured 5w 6d. I don't know how you cycles work but it could be a your problem you are just really really early like I was.
Good luck I hope everything looks good when you go back.

Re: my first ultrasound showed yolk sac but no baby
Anything below 6 weeks will only show a gestational sac. That's what I have on my first ultrasoud. At 6 weeks, there was a fetal pole and a sac with a flickering heartbeat.
How many weeks are you? Its very hard to measure actual day you conceived because of your cycle. I conceived thru intra uterine insemination so we actually know the day I fertilized the egg so I am at the the right week of my pregnancy. They did not count it from my LMP but the day of my IUI which makes sense.
I hope you will see the fetal pole next time. Goodluck!
Re: my first ultrasound showed yolk sac but no baby
Thank you for the reassurance. From the date of my LMP my first appt last week I should have been 7 weeks, 5 weeks gestation. I'm going tomorrow for the second ultrasound. I will let you all know how it goes. Thank you again for the support!
Re: my first ultrasound showed yolk sac but no baby
My LMP was Jan 20th and I had my first ultrasound yesterday assuming I was about 8 weeks, well there was a sac and nothing also!! I am so scared but the Dr insists on coming back in a week to see if anything changes. I guess it is possible to be behind a few weeks? It is so confusing, but I wish us luck- I am in the same boat!
Re: my first ultrasound showed yolk sac but no baby
I know, the wait is horrible, but I just try to remain positive. There are alot of good outcome posts I've read and some bad. We just have to remember it is very early. I'm 24 and this is my first pregnancy so believe me I've been freaking out too. I will post on Friday with what happend either way. Good luck to you too!
Re: my first ultrasound showed yolk sac but no baby
We only saw the GSac when we went for our first ultrasound. The wait was horrible, but the dates were just off...when we went back 2 weeks later, not only did they find our baby, but we saw the HB too =) Stay positive...odds are the dates are just a little off!

Re: my first ultrasound showed yolk sac but no baby
Your story sounds so much like mine. I went in for an US on 3/18 as well, and only a sac was found. They did blood tests and I have been told they look good HCG 142,000, so I am going in for another US on Monday....hoping that they find a healthy little one this time. The wait is certainly nerve wracking...good luck to you!
ps my LMP was 1/18.
Re: my first ultrasound showed yolk sac but no baby
The same thing happened to me. My cycles have always been a bit off & my 1st u/s all that was seen was the sac. I went in exactly a week later and we saw the baby & hb! Turned out I wasn't as far along as I thought. I hope this is the case for you
Re: my first ultrasound showed yolk sac but no baby
I wish I came back with better news. I went back a week and a day later and the sac got bigger, but there was nothing in it and no baby. I had a D&C on Friday. I was very upset, but I have to remember everything happens for a reason. Thanks for all your comments.
