What if you see a BFP AFTER 10 minutes on a HPT??? - Trying to Conceive (TTC) Message Board

Hi all,

First off, I just want to wish all of you nothing but the best while TTC. I know this is a very supportive community, and I want nothing but success for all of you.

Okay, so, I am now 15 DPO (my period is due today or tomorrow). I took a HPT (in the afternoon) yesterday and I thought maybe there was the faintest line for a BFP. But, I also thought that my eyes wanted to see something that wasn't there. I checked the test later (like several hours... and yes, I know that I shouldn't!) and it was a definate BFP. Why do you have to disregard the results of the test after 10 minutes? Can it turn into a positive when you're not actually pregnant? Or could it turn negative if you did see a positive?

I'm so confused. I'm going to test again tomorrow (first thing in the morning). But I'm afraid it'll be negative and I'll be SOOOOO disappointed after seeing the (possible) BFP. Has anyone had a similar situation?

My understanding of it is that you could see evaporation lines. Basically as the urine drys it could leave lines where the BFP line would be.

That's what happened to me when I got pregnant with my daughter

so there is hope for you! Just retest in a few days or a week to be sure. Do you have any symptoms?

I think its positive. I am waiting for my body to reorganize itself after a miscarriage (so I can join this board again). Anyways, it has been 4 weeks and the line takes a while to show up, but after about 20 min I check and see a really faint line (its getting fainter than God). I know they say not to read your test after 10 min but the line will not show if there is no HCG there...I would say it took a while because you may be one of the people that has a lower HCG number (its normal, all women vary), wait a few days and I would almost guarantee a positive test.
