Re: why am i not ovulating but having periods
You don't necessarily have to ovulate in order to have a "period", w/o ovulation it isn't a true "period" since there is no egg being passed. What you're experience is shedding of the uterine lining which is triggered by the rise and fall of estrogen & progesterone levels in your body. Usually when you ovulate, that's when your body starts producing progesterone & estrogen begins to fall. If the egg is not fertizlied, then your progesterone levels will fall down to nothing triggering your period. If the egg is fertilized, your body will continue to produce progesterone until 10 weeks gestation (this is necessary to sustain the pregnancy). In your case, it was possibly the estrogen levels that triggered your periods. You may want to go on b/c pills for a few months to see if the hormones in the pills will trick your body into ovulating once you come off them. Plus once you come of the pill your more fertile. My fiance & I plan on trying again once I come off them in march. Good luck!
