pregnant?

How long should i wait to check if i'm pregnant or not. I've heard wait 10 from when your suppose to start your period? Any suggestions? i'm out from my last period 37 days, i'm afraid to be too anxious to check incase it's negative. Both my husband and i want it to be positive, but i have been kind of sick nausea, and breasts have enlarged. is it possible that my body is just having the symptoms since i want to have a baby? Suggestions would be helpful!!!
Thanks!

Re: pregnant?

An October 2001 JAMA article (JAMA. 2001;286:1759-1761) said the highest possible screening sensitivity for an hCG-based pregnancy test conducted on the first day of a missed period is 90 percent, as 10 percent of women may not have implanted yet. The authors estimate that the highest possible screening sensitivity of a home pregnancy test by one week after the first day of the missed period is 97 percent.

The earliest you can get a positive result on the most sensitive pregnancy tests is seven days after ovulation. Implantation needs to occur before hCG is produced, and that generally happens between 6-12 days post ovulation, usually by 10 days after. For this reason, it makes economical sense to wait until 10-12 days after ovulation, but even then a significant percentage of women who are indeed pregnant will still show a negative result.

Good luck to you <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">

You sound pregnant to me. I am too at 38 days, "late" for AF. I took a hpt on the day I was due for my period (28th day) and got a positive result. I wasn't even expecting it. I was prescribed medication that said "don't take if you are pregnant" so to be sure I took a test and it was positive. I have your same sypmtoms too. Take the test, surely you're pregnant too!

Good Luck!

Thanks for your reply...so i did take a test and it's negative. Last year when i took a test it came up negative and then 3 wks later i retested and it was positive. However, how i'm feeling is weird. I'm hungrier and my stomach is having problems, i can't tell if it's just a stomach flu or what. sometimes i feel like i'm going to start my period but nothing happens. HELP!!

Well you can go in and see your doctor for a blood test. Blood tests can pick up pregnancy much sooner than most HPTs. Also since you have miscarried beforeyour doctor should be more than willing to get you in sooner so they can watch you more closely.

Have you had a visit from AF? Have you tested positive yet?

Shaelle

well...yes i tested and it said it was negative, i'm about 42 days out and it's driving me nuts! i did spot a tiny little bit today, but i don't understand what's going on. If i'm going to start my period i wish it would start already. when i was prego last year my first test came up negative and then 3 wks later it was positive. (so , i m confused) i think i'm over stressing about ttc. i think i need to just forget about it and go on with my life and it's bound to happen. I thought of taking these pills from my accupunturist that is to help build up blood, in hopes that my period would start, but if for some reason i was prego, i'd really worry. i'm not sure what to think. I should probably take whitewolfes advice and get a blood test done. Anyway, thanks for asking!!
