| Testing Fertility?
I'm 32 years old and have a copper IUD fitted. I desperately want to know how fertile I would be if I had the coil removed.
My husband and I both agree we'd like children but basically I'm ready now, and he's more of the mind "one day" (he's 4-years younger than me).
We've talked (a lot) and I'm really scared time is running out. I've previously had ovarian cysts (removed in laproscopy) , 5 years of Amenorrhea due to Anorexia and PCOS. Thankfully all that is behind me now and Ive had periods for a couple of years (jump-started by going on the pill). Even without that, at 32 my clock is ticking and I know pregnancy later in life is more risky to mother and child.
So, what we'd like to know is how fertile am I - but can we test this before removing the coil? I guess what I'm saying is if I had a test and it said no problem as at all, we'd leave the coil in a little longer, as my husband doesn't feel ready. If however it came back and my fertility was really really low, we'd have it removed and look to start a family sooner as whilst not ideal, we both do ultimately want children - and my husband admits he doesn't know if he'll ever actually feel ready beforehand as it's a huge change.
I've been charting my temperature with a specialist thermometer every morning before I get up, but it's all over the place and shows no patterns. I bought some ovulation test strips off the internet, but nothing. Am I wasting my time - can they even show a positive result when a coil is fitted? My understanding is that the egg is still released with a coil, so should it pick that up?
I really don't know where to turn. Can my doctor help with these questions? I feel stupid going with "what if" questions. Can they test fertility or would I have to go private (I live in the UK)?
All I want to know is should I be able to conceive now if I have the coil removed and what my chances are now compared to a year or two down the line.
Thanks in advnace.
