Exclamation TTC with newly discovered Thyroid disorder

I'm 20 years old , newly married 6 mos ago , my husband and I have decided to try for a child , but I think we might have a few factors that might make this difficult... I have recently been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism & a goiter. My Doctor is wanting to discuss removing my thryoid altogether because my goiter is so large at my "young" age. I don't know if a woman can have children or even ovulate without a thyroid?? Also , before diagnosis , I took several ovulation tests , and found I didn't ovulate AT ALL that month , so how do I even know if I am??

Re: TTC with newly discovered Thyroid disorder

first of all congrats with your marriage.

Although thyroid does influences fertility one can perfectly get pregnant without a thyroid, under the condition the thyroidproblem is properly managed (supplemented).

good luck.

ps; more info can be found on the thyroid board

Hi Breyanna
Congrats on your marriage!
I would seek a second opinion before removing your thyroid.
You can get pregnant without a thyroid, however without a thyroid you will have to take thyroid medication for the rest of your life. You would have to do that regardless if your thyroid is not functioning but without one you'll have to take more. Millions of people take thyroid replacement hormone though and have healthy pregnancies.
Best of luck!
