Question pounding heart at night

Hi!
This question is really for my mother-in-law. Every night or I should say early morning, her racing/pounding heart wakes her up. As soon as she wakes up she goes to the bathroom and the pounding stops. She has asked several drs if the pounding has anything to do with her need to urinate. They have all basically said she is crazy. Has anyone experienced or heard of anything like this?
Thanks.

Hi Joan,
Has your mother-in-law had her thyroid checked? When a thyroid is overactive the heart beats really fast(you can feel it more when lying down). Also does she have hands that shake or is she losing weight? Just a suggestion-Hope she finds what is wrong.
