i have had a uti for a while now. my dr at this time has ordered me to have a urine sample done via cath and also a cystoscopy. i have never had eathier one of these before and i am really nervous if anyone could tell me what to expect i would appreciate it. thank you very much for your time.
I've had both done. I must say there is some discomfort with the catheter when they insert it. The only advice I can think of is to try to relax and take deep breaths...this will help the muscles keep loose to make the insertion go a little easier. The cystoscopy is basically the same deal. I thought the worst part of that was when they fill the bladder to stretch the lining for better viewing...I REALLY felt like I was going to burst. The other thing I had was a pretty painful burning after the procedures when I'd pee...like I had to mentally prepare myself each time I had to go (and frequency is my main problem, so I go A LOT). I'd go into the bathroom and take a deep breath and just pee as fast as I could because it hurt. I hope I'm not scaring you or anything and there may be other people who had no problems. Your doctor could probably help prepare you too. Good luck.
OK, I have to ask - Why are you having either of these done just for a UTI? I'm sorry, but I just don't see why either of these need to be done for a simple bladder infection unless you're having complications, which you didn't mention.....
i have had a uti for almost a month now and they have tried different meds but it is still not going away so my dr feels the need to see if there is anything else causing it.
