hello ..i've posted here several times complaining of urgency/frequency (constant feeling of having to urinate even after emptying bladder),urethral spasms, lower abdominal/pelvic pressure.was told by URO that i have "mild irritation of the bladder probably due to the UTI i had back in late February"...my question to all of the women suffers of the same or similiar situation as myself, have you thought about these symptoms possibly being gynecologically related?..from what i understand, these symptoms can be caused by uterine problems, such as fibroids (even very small ones), prolapse, etc...when i found this out i called my GYN and scheduled an appt (6/10)..i have a URO appt on 6/9 and i'm going to be sure to tell him that i'm having my symptoms evaluated further by the GYN...its impossible to live normally with these constant symptoms..i have a family and i'd like to be able to enjoy the summer w/o having to run to the bathroom every few minutes..its funny, when you tell the dr's that the symptoms are interrupting your daily routine they look at you like youre crazy,as if hearing that is a total surprise to them....my symptoms came on me very suddenly, almost overnight, and that makes me think that theres a somewhat simple explanation and treatment option for me..up until when this all started (late february/early march) i never had any type of urinary problem (other than passing a stone back in '89), not even so much as a UTI....i'm interested if any of you women who are suffers have gone the GYN route to help diagnose and treat your symptoms?..and if so, would you please share with me your experience(s)?.....thanks in advance and hope everyone is doing well...... diana
Good question. I've had the same symptoms off and on for a couple years now, ever since I had a really bad UTI that I didn't know I even had until my doctor told me (go figure, eh? I have a UTI with no symptoms, now I have symptoms with no UTI). Anyway, was this your urologist that said your blader was irritated? (is that what a URO is?) and what did he give you for it, if anything?
hello ...yes it was my urologist that told me about the bladder irritation..he did a cystoscopy and thats what it revealed..he didnt act as if it was any big deal..he gave me a prescription for Urised (anti-infective/antispasmodic/analgesic), told me to come back in a month, then sent me on my way...after not feeling any better after a week i called him back..he wants to see my on 6/9 (instead of 6/19)..i'm not sure what he's going to do..theres really nothing much left for him TO do.i've had an IVP and the cystoscope..plus he sent out a urine sample taken during the cystoscope for a complete cytology report--all 3 tests would have shown any abnormalities-all 3 tests came back negative, other than the "mild irritation" (cystoscope)..so this leads me to believe that my problem is not totally related to my urinary tract.
Thank you for responding to my post. And I did read your post prior and felt
just awful for you since I know what it is your feeling and (to me) it seems
no one who isn't experiencing it, seems to understand just how frustrating
it is. In answer to your question, yes, it did just seem to happen
overnight. It's was worse about two weeks ago and now seems to only be very
terrible at night or after work (at least for now.) For awhile it felt like
a tingling in my groin area and of course the frequent urination, but now,
less of that and I can still feel a definite dull ache in my bladder/uterus
region. I wouldn't necessarily call it a pain but I can definitely feel a
difference for the worst. Do you have that symptom as well? I'm going to the
urologist on Monday. I'll try and tell you what he says.
hi again.. .......glad you have that urology appt..my appt with urology is monday also..we should hook up with the same urologist and ask for a 2 for 1 special..haha..cause they sure as heck charge enough!!.............i dont (and havent) had any pain associated with all this, just that annoying feeling of having to urinate, plus a heavy/full sensation in my bladder/pelvis/uterus area..i also have the urethral spasms--i guess that what you'd call what i'm feeling..i get a sudden feeling of having to go to the bathroom, in the urethra..like its sitting right on the edge..these feelings are constantly present although sometimes theyre not as prominant..its all so strange to me..like i said in my earlier post, i cant imagine that its something too serious since it showed up overnight...sounds like your symptoms did too.......please post again when you find something out from the urologist, as i'll do the same..maybe between the 2 of us (and anyone else who'd like to shed some light on this)we can come up with some answers, along with the dr's........stay well ..diana
I hope you two are feeling better. May I be included in the discount we should be receiving?! I just had urethral dilation, hydrostatic bladder dilation, and two biospies done. The biospy is to check for IC Interstitial Cystitis). During surgery they did push back scar tissue (worse to cut out). My problem also occurred overnight, but 12 yrs ago! It seems food related. If you drink coffee, try to limit amount. Over the past few mos. my symptoms were getting worse (ie. frequency & a twinge either like going through the urethra or down in the urethral opening.) I only had that pain once after limiting the coffee, & I mean limiting! Was drinking 2C or so per day & now drink 2-4C per wk! Just remember that caffeine (coffee, chocolate) are irritants to the bladder. Tell my why do such pleasures need to be so, I don't know, annoying in the "End?!" M
Hi Megan - Quick question: How did you limit your coffee to only 2-4 cups a week? Do you only have a little each day so that it totals 2-4 cups at the end of the week, or do you have a cup one day, none the next, etc? It's my one vice and I've gotten down to about one cup a day, maybe another if I go out to dinner. Also, am curious as to how much food limiting helps? What I'm asking is - does it simply cut down on the symptoms, or does it make them go away completely?
I went to my urologist today and, I think, completely stumped them. Well, sort of. There were three doctors in to see me and one of them thought it could be endometriosis, another said they would do a CT to check for Kidney Stones but the general consenses seemed to be confusion. I think the fact that I don't have any burning when I urinate threw them off and the fact that there was no bacteria in my urine. However, they did say that it seemed as if something was pressing on my bladder. I don't think I mentioned this before but I get very painful periods and recently have had very abnormal periods. So they said they were going to make an appointment within the hospital for me to see one of their gynocologists. Of course, they said cancer is also an option. And now, I've been really freaking myself out by searching the internet for uterine cancer symptoms which are almost to a tee of what I have. Also cervical cancer runs in my family. They said I should see the gynocologist as soon as possible. But beyond all that they haven't done any tests yet and I have still no answers. But I was wondering if you have pain when urinating? Or is it better for you at certain times of the day? Do you have any similar gynocological symptoms as me? Well, I'll tell you what my gynocologist says.
hello kathryna...i went to my urologist again today 6/9,and, like you, was told to see my gynecologist (i beat him to it--i have an appt scheduled for tomorrow 6/10)..theres is nothing abnormal within my urinary tract to be causing my symptoms..the dr checked to make sure my bladder was emptying (he did this on my first visit also) and it was well within normal limits (anything below 100 is considered normal, mine was 52)..the urologist was adamant about me getting in to see my GYN..he wouldnt elaborate on what may be causing my problems because he said that wasnt his specialty and it wouldnt be appropriate for him to speculate..so off to the GYN tomororw (6/10) and hopefully i'll be in the right direction.......hope everyone else can find some answers..please post again when you know something.......stay happy..diana
Hi Kathryna - No, I've never had any burning with my bladder infections. I've also had several times when I've been positive I had an infection, but no bacteria showed up. But I always thought it strange that it would go away with antibiotics though. Which tells me that it really was an infection. Why there was no bacteria in my urine I don't know, but I have read recently, and more than once, that there is the possibility of a new strain of bacteria that doesn't show up in the urine.
I've always been a strong believer in trying the simplest way first, which for this would be a course of antibiotics to see if your problem goes away regardless of what they 'don't' see in your urine. It certainly won't hurt, and then if it's still there, then they can look for another cause.
Let us know how you are, ok?
Kellie2 - As far as limiting the coffee. I just decided that it was an irritant similar to soda. I have maybe 1 blended cafe mocha per wk & maybe 1 soda per wk!!! Food limitation and drink limitation help for the most part, but do not aleviate the symptoms all together. If they did, I'd be a real happy camper. Yesterday was the worst. I'd eaten a lot of foods Sat & Sun that I shouldn't have. Recipes: 1 incl. sour crm, pineapples /2: chili powder, kidney beans / ate Suddenly Susan Classic, which has vinegar dressing / Can't forget the blended cafe mocha. All was delicious, but Mon. I certainly paid the price. Burn, burn, burn. Cry Cry Cry. I'm even on pain meds, as I had surgical proc last Thurs. Dr. subscribed another med. Will try this pm. Thurs is f-u appt. Hopefully I'll find out if I have IC. Shouldn't be cancer. I would like to comment on the endometriosis. Co-worker mentioned that it would be a good idea to check. I really don't feel it's nec for me, as I don't seem to have a problem in that area. (Just this other very nagging prob.) Diane - I'm glad you're going to the GYN. Good luck. M
hello again...i went to the GYN today (6/10) and he had me diagnosed within a minute..can you believe that???..i've been back and forth to dr's since late february only to find out today that its a GYN problem..what irriates me the most is that i had made a GYN appt a few months back but canceled it becaues of my primary care dr wanting me to see the urologist..hindsight is 20/20 i guess..i'm just thankful to finally know whats wrong..the diagnosis was a rectocele, cystocele, and uterine prolapse..treatment is a partial hysterectomy (uterus),and repair to the rectocele and cystocele, and also a vagina reconstruction...all of this will be schudeled within the next 4 weeks hopefully...so my advice to everyone who's still dealing with symptoms and who havent gotten a diagnosis from your primary care dr or urologist, go see your gynecologist...apparently my symptoms and problem are very common.....keep posting to let me know how everyone is doing, and i'll do the same... ..diana
