part of the legend of the soft drink Dr Pepper was its cheery taste and smell.
the smell went thru the digestive system and was apparent in the urine, a reminder of having drunk it.

in a pubilc toilet you often smelled DR pepper in areas where it was popular.

now this seems to have changed, I recently had some, tasted the same but no smell
is nothing sacred!!

Out in Texas somewhere is the original, or one of the orignal, Dr. Pepper bottlers, where they still make and bottle Dr. Pepper per the original formula - they even use real cane sugar, not that High Fructose Corn Syrup that is bad stuff. You can do an internet search for it. They will mail order it. I have never tasted it, but a few weeks ago I just happened to come across the web site when I was doing some research for a trip I was taking out that way.
