Post Cipro

What is the usual prescribed amount for a bacterial infection of the prostate? I was given a prescription for 250mg tablets, three times per day (total daily amount: 750mg).

I do not know what the standard prescription is, but I have been taking a 500 mg tablet, twice a day.

Question

It seems that 500mg twice per day is the recommended dosage. I am not sure why the doctor recommended less than the recommended daily dosage. He also prescribed enough for 14 days. However, Bayer recommends 28 days for bacterial prostatitis.
