can't urinate

hi I'm really new at this but I was wondering if any one has any info on not being able to urinate. I went to a doc, and she put a catheter in I have to have for seven days cus my bladder was so enlarged. I see a specialist next and I wonder what they will do for test and what would be causing me not to urinate I hope someone has some info for me I'm nervouse about the whole deal.

You might have a uretral stricture that causes your uretra to be stopped up.

So what can I expect for an exam and how do clear the uretra out. Do they use a bottle brush? just kidding.. Can you give me more info?

My daughter was born with many urological problems. She underwent 2 major surgeries. About 7 months after her second surgery, she pretty much stopped peeing. She started getting UTI's again, so her urologist decided to do a cystoscopy to check for a blockage. Sure enough she had strictures right at the bladder neck(most likely caused from her previous surgery), holding the urethra almost completely shut. He was able to cut them out. Her bladder is now extremely large and floppy because of this. She may require a vesicostomy, but that is another story. Does your doc give you any ideas as why you can't urinate? Not really sure what tests the specialist will do, but our urologist had mentioned urodynamics for my daughter, but decided against it for now. Good luck. I hope they figure out the problem and can easily fix it.
