what is considered normal urination

My question is what is considered normal urination. I read that one of the symptoms of overactive bladder is having to unrinate more than 8 times in 24 hours. If a person urinates every 3-5 hours with clear light yellow urine is that considered excessive? Also if a person's urine is bubbly every now and then like after waking up, but is not bubbly on a regular basis is that cause for concern to see a nephrologist? All responses are appreciated.

I wouldn't consider ever 3 hours frequent at all. Me and my dad have both had urinary tract infections before where we'd feel the need to go once every 30 mins to 2 hours.

But, I'm not a physician... get it checked out. Better safe than sorry!

Oh my goodness, no. Urinating every three hours is not excessive. Normal is what is *normal* for you. I know some girls who can go all day shopping and never go; others stop every couple of hours. It depends on what you drink, how much you drink, the size of your bladder, etc. If someone is drinking as much as the 'experts' say we should, of course they're going to urinate more than if they weren't drinking. Every 3-5 hours is just fine. Really.

Good advice kellie2,

females that have not had children usually can hold more than females that have had children, but even this has exceptions. What is normal for one, can be considered her normal...

Thanks all, what do you think about the occassional bubbly state of the urine. Its rare, and I have noticed it more when drinking alcohol or carbonated beverages?

Re: what is considered normal urination

I've read that 5 times per 24 hour period is normal. That comes out to once every 5 hours or so. I'd think once every 3 hours would be a case of frequent urination.

Yes, but I have read that the average is 8 times over 24 hours, which would break down to every three hours. I have gone 5 times a day at 3 hour intervals, for example 10 am-1pm-4pm-7pm-10pm and then no more until waking the next morning at 9am.

its also going to depend on how much you habitually drink. i know i naturally drink at least 2 L of water every day, as well as other drinks, so i urinate more frequently than someone who does'nt drink as regularily.
