uti spread to kidneys

How do you know if an untreated uti has moved into your kidneys? Are you obviously ill, or just uncomfortable? I've been having trouble with recurrent burning lately. I haven't had it treated. Last night I had severe vomiting and a low body temp. I don't know if it's related or if I ate a bad hot dog. I had no diarrhea or any intestinal problems. Today I still have burning and my head feels a little funny. I'm drowning myself with water and have gotten a measure of relief after several hours, but I still don't feel right. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks.
