Traces of Blood in urine

Okay, I have posted on another board because I had a abnormal pap come back. Today I went to my MD for a check-up. They did a urine test and I have small traces of blood in my urine, which I have had with every urine test since this past summer! which at those times they thought because I was getting my period or had spotting.. now I have no period, no infection that they know of and still small traces of blood in my urine!!!! I don't really have any pain when I pee. However, sometimes I will have a oder and a feeling of bloat. Now I have another thing to worry about on top of my ASCUS abnormal pap! I'm scared. any info on this would help..thanks!

Hi,
I too have had blood in my urine for along time.
I have had IVP, x-rays and a cytoscopy (think thats what its called!) all these revealed nothing out of the ordinary.
I am actually going back to the hospital for more tests tomorrow, so will post again tomorrow evening, to update you.
I have been told on many occassion, that blood in the urine may be present for years with no serious side effects. So I wouldn't worry just yet!!!
It might just be one of those things.

Re: Traces of Blood in urine

Thanks for the reply. The doctor called today and I have to have a cytoscopy, does that hurt? I'm so worried because I have been bloated and feel full in the bladder. I'm 28 years old and of course I smoke, so now I am even more worried.

I hope everything goes well with you. let me know how it turns out. good luck!

Hi again!
No a cytoscopy doesn't hurt.
It's a similar sort of procedure as having a smear test.
A little bit embarrassing and a little uncomfortable, but not painful.
Honestly you have nothing to worry about.

I have been told today that I have to go back for a full body scan, just to check they haven't missed anything and then Im having the entrance to my bladder stretched, as apparently a lot of womens bladders dont always empty fully, which leaves a small amount of urine in the bladder to get infected, causing infection, bad smells, blood in urine and pain.

Hope you manage to get things sorted soon. Please keep me informed.
Good Luck
xx

Hey, how are you? I really hope everything turns out well for you. I go to the doctors tomorrow, and I am so scared. They got me in early since they had a cancellation. I can't wait for this all to be over.

Re: Traces of Blood in urine

Hey! so nice to hear from you! Some woman get cronic infections from what I've been told. The doctor seemed really nice. He said that he does not think its cancer, but more likely something like, darn can't remember the name cystities (sp) or something like that. but I have the scope on march 17th and a CT scan on the 11th. I'm soooooo nervouse, on top of all of this I have been having female problems and a abnormal pap to deal with. I just hope it all works out, I'm getting so sick over all of this, it's so nice to have people like you on here, it gives such comfort.

Hi Jen!

It's so wierd, that you're having female problems, because I too have trouble!
I've recently been given some tablets to stop the period pains I've been having which so far seem to be working ok. Last year I had a laparoscopy,(camera inserted through the belly button to examine ovaries, uterus etc) a hysteroscopy (camera inserted through vagina) a D&C and a cauterisation of my cervix.
About five years ago I also had an abnormal smear test, which then led to me having a colposcopy, and quite alot of my cervix removed by laser.
And now, I'm getting all these problems with my bladder and kidneys. I think I'm ready for the scrapyard!!!! lol
Please try not to get too nervous over your tests, hopefully they should be alright.
you must drink PLENTY of fluids though. Did your doctor tell you this?
If you get ANY backache or a fever of 38C or 100F then go straight back to your doctor as the infection could have spread to your kidneys.
If you do have cystitis, you should have been given some antibiotics to clear the infection up. Hopefully once they start to work you should start feeling better pretty soon.

Please let me know how you go on with your scan and cytoscope!
Good Luck!!!

Re: Traces of Blood in urine

you know I wish we could take our bodies in for a tune up like we do our cars..haha The thing is I have no infection. I just been having micro blood in my urine when they would do routine tests at the doctors so they sent me over to a Uro doc. I sometimes I would get pain in my bladder and a feeling of tenterness, almost like I was getting a bladder infection, but when they did tests there was no infection. so that is why I have to have all these test done to see what is going on. as for my pap it came back ASCUS I don't know if the two are related but I hope not. They told me nothing about drinking a lot of water, but hopefully they will when I go for the pre surgery on the 10th. or is that for the CT scan that I have to drink a lot of water? I have a repeat pap in April maybe things will be okay. It's never ending isnt it? I'm 28 years old and I feel 100!

Re: Traces of Blood in urine

Hi Jen
Hope everything with you is ok!
Just thought I'd let you know......I've got yet another infection!!
I went to my docs yesterday and was told that yet again there is more blood in the urine. I've been given some antibiotics to clear the infection up and then once it's clear I have to take a different antibiotic every night, and they're hoping that this will keep any future infections away!
I'm just hoping this works as I've had enough now!!
My doc asked me what the specialist was doing so I told him that I'm supposed to be having another full scan and my uretha stretched. He was a bit shocked by this and told me that he didn't think that would do me much good! apparently it doesn't have a very good success rate. So now I'm even more confused!
Keep in touch and let me know how things are going with you.
Bambi xx

Re: Traces of Blood in urine

Hey Bambi!

well I just got back from my cysto. My CT was normal and my cysto was too. 90% of my bladder is great the bottom half was inflamed, which is why he thinks i was bleeding a bit. I'm burning a big but other than that I feel okay. Thanks for your support, take care.

Dear Maggie HB User
Hematuria is ...

Hi, all

I thought I would mention that traces of blood in the urine is something that can happen from chemical exposures. One family of chemicals in particular, ethylene glycol ethers (actually ethylene glycol monobutyl ether) ... such as found in cleaning products and paint, etc. Do any of you do a lot of cleaning? What kind of work are you doing?

It can have additional problems of reproductive harm and endocrine system harm, kidney, liver, etc. Do you also have difficulty concentrating now-a-days or depression and a much grouchier temperament than usual?

AND are you TIRED a lot? Have the doc do a minor add on blood test - & check for how many immature red blood cells there are compared to what is the normal amount. 'Retic ratio' AND ask the lab tech to look at the red blood cells: size? shape?

I agree with doc on skipping the 'stretch' stuff. When you get older, you'll wish it wasn't.

Re: Hematuria is ...

Thank you for your comments.
I am a housewife nowadays, (i used to work in nursing homes & hospitals) and I spend a lot of my time cleaning, so am a little concerned now!
I do suffer with bouts of depression anyway, but when I read your reply out to my hubby, he said, "thats you! dead grouchy and tired all the time!!!"
I will definitely be making a trip to my docs now and be asking for a blood test!
Thanks again.

Dear Maggie HB User
I am please to hear that

Very good! But you have to help your doctor.

The kind of harm chemicals such as they use in the hospitals (they even use ethylene oxide - horrible stuff) ... and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (also known as 2-butoxyethanol) ... doesn't show up the same as doctors expect.

Can you go to a toxicologist? Or a hematalogist? Or an endocrinologist? Anyway, doctors are not trained to recognize and test for this kind of harm. The blood counts can look OK, maybe borderline OK ... but if you do show a low red blood cell anemia from this chemical, for instance, the doctors can't pinpoint it. (There are experts who will consult with MDs - so here's hoping your doctor wants to consult with one of them)

Please read some of my other posts, because this is the primary thing I share on. Basically this chemical causes 'gulf war sydnrome' symptoms; and my theory is that it IS this chemical that has caused the harm to our military then and now ... AND to the general population;

It can cause endocrine disruption which means you can have odd readings in blood pressure, blood sugar ... and these are secondary issues, not primary.

If your doctor will 'listen' to you, please ask him/her to order a 'retic ratio' and to have the lab tech comment on the red blood cell size and shape. Ask for a TRH test (to do with endocrine system) and probably should regularly do kidney and liver function tests, too.

Do you remember a time when your eyes watered and burned like hot pokers were in them, and your urine turned dark, and you had flu like symptoms? .... and the very next day you woke up feeling soooo.... tired? What did you do differently that day?

PS
As I read this thread I thought, these must still be having some exposures of some kind (ongoing) that would cause blood to be in the urine. It is possible to be exposed to this chemical repetitively and frequently, because it is in many products people use all the time. You must educate yourself & even learn to recognize the warnings given, because sometimes the ingredient is not named.
