Water runs right through me

Hello,
I've been suffering from constipation so everyone says drink plenty of water and take a fiber supplement.
Okay, but when I drink the 8 glasses of water a day each runs right through me.
So I think this makes the fiber supplement not effective.

Any ideas on why the water isn't staying in my intestines??

Should I go to a Dr.??

If you are not used to drinking a lot of water it is probably why it is going straight through you. Do not start with eight glasses unless you were like already drinking five or six, etc. before this. If you were drinking little or none you might start with four glasses per day for a few weeks and slowly increase the amount until you get to eight. It takes about two to three months for your body to adjust so that you do not have to use the bathroom all the time. You also need to be sure you are drinking it chilled. I have found that if I drink it at room temperature it goes right through me even though I am used to drinking about 32 oz. per day. The cold water doesn't do that.

Thyroid problems can cause constipation. Do you have some other symptoms like dry skin, fatigue, hair loss, intolerance to cold, cold hand/feet, brittle nails or low sex drive.

Are you constantly thirsty or do you just drink the 8 glasses because they said that would help the constipation?

Have you taken antibiotics in the last year?

Re: Water runs right through me

Orion,
I don't really have the other symptoms as you described. The constipation thing has improved without a fiber supplement and loads of water.
I'm still feeling some pressure and incomplete bladder emptying.

I've not taken any antibotics within the year.

I have some anixety however and thrist quite often.

What tests would I ask for at the Dr.'s office?
