Difference between kidney calcification and stones?

My neph called back today and said that it is a kidney stone in my right kidney. WHAT? The urologist said that he was sure it was NOT a kidney stone. My neph says that it's basically the same thing, just using different words. Gosh, the uro. was very sure it wasn't a stone, and it seems that he would know since that's all he deals with. I know that dr's can disagree on things, but I guess I'm wondering if they mean the same thing, just calling it by different names.

Can someone shed some light on this?

Is there a difference between a kidney calcification and a kidney stone?

TIA!

Re: Difference between kidney calcification and stones?

I thought it was 2 different things b/c I had a KUB xray which showed a kidney stone in the left kidney and a few calcifications.

Re: Difference between kidney calcification and stones?

Thanks for your reply sunshine!

I guess I'm still confused then. The uro. says one thing, the neph says another - I'm not sure who is right. I guess I'll call the uro back and see what he says. I would just like an answer so that I know what, if anything, needs to be done.

Thanks again for your reply - I'm glad you explained that to me!
