Do foley catheters hurt (for men?)

Hi im jsut wondering if it hurts for a guy to get a foley catheter put in. Ive heard of absolute horror stories about how painful it is and im jsut wondering if anyone can talk from experience. Do they at least numb it????? Or give you anything so you dont feel pain?

Re: Do foley catheters hurt (for men?)

Hi Sickboy

I catheterise male and female patients on a regualr basis and it should not hurt if the right size is used.

The only time it may hurt is if an infection is present as it causes inflammation and inserting the catheter can cause friction on the flammed area.

Why do you ask?

Re: Do foley catheters hurt (for men?)

Well, im an 18 year old male. Ive been suffering from small kidney stones and a possible UTI. If it came down to it...i would like to know how it feels. I can urinate fine.....its jsut there has been a lot of burning ans pain associated after im done. When you insert catheters do you use anything to numb it? Sorry I ask a lot...catheters have been my biggest fear....simply because i hear its a horrible pain to get them inserted. I can only imagine.

No nothing is used to numb the area.

In alll costs a person should be avoided being cathertirised as this can cause UTIs if they are catherterised alot.
