TURP procedure - Urology Message Board

I recently had part of my enlarged prostate scraped away due to urinary blockage. The report showed they removed 41 grams - how large is a prostate anyway? Also had to go back to hospital due to excessive blood in the bladder - the clots blocked urine flow - boy that catheter hurt that time! The urologist said the aspirin I take for my heart caused the bleeding - any other experiences with bleeding out there? Anything else I should be avoiding?

I have not had a TURP but when I had my prostate biopsy, I had stopped taking the aspirin previously presecribed but only about a week prior to the biopsy. I bled like a stuck pig. Should have stopped the aspirin much longer before the procedure.

Lots of fluids to keep things flushed out.

I am 50yrs old,and supposed to go for TURP this week

Doctor says Its a one day hosp stay and the catheter will be removed the next day.Then I will be released from the hosptial.

But I read that the Catheter may be in for 3 days.
Does anyone konw the real truth.

How long is the recovery period, Are there any risks involved
