Unhappy Gotta Go Now-pee Urgency

i feel like that ad i've seen on tv about the woman on a bus vacation in a big city when she now had to go...
i too have this problem and here is why i think: i take lasix (water pill for b/p) and two cups of coffee in the am. the first few times, usually before 2pm, i have to go "right now". sometimes i don't quite make it. after about 2pm, it doesn't happen with this urgency.
my dr. precribed detrol la and i am not sure it is helping as i still have to go "right now" with a lot of urgency. i swear, the closer i get to a bathroom, psychologically tells me relief is close by and i may start to go before hitting the john.
i am now practicing by keogels (sp?). bout time, i am 68
i don't have to get up at night. hum? is it the water pill and coffee giving me urgency? i don't drink coffee during the day or even a caffeine drink.
i am going to stop my detrol la for a few weeks and see if i notice any difference. if you are interested in the outcome, refer to my post.
perhaps i should relieve myself more often in the morning if i have a chance?

Re: Gotta Go Now-pee Urgency

My grandmother takes a water pill, actually a half a water pill, and it usually makes her have to go pretty urgently, also. Combine that with your coffee and it's no wonder you're having an issue. I think that you should try to cut back on the coffee if possible. Try to cut back to one cup instead of two. Or space it out more instead of having one right after another.

I haven't heard very good things about Detrol as helping that much. But I have heard really good things about Vesicare. A couple of my girlfriends had to start taking it for overactive bladder and they said it really made a difference for them. Maybe ask your doctor if you can switch? It might work better for you.

Re: Gotta Go Now-pee Urgency

I take detrol after dealing with the urgency issue and leaks for the past 5 years. And it's helped me significantly. No more leaks, no more sudden urgency, no more peeing myself if I made a little jump over something or coughed or sneezed.

My doctor suggested reducing my coffee intake -- I only have one cup in the morning and I don't drink soda or any other caffienated beverage. I practiced kegels, don't drink alcohol 'cuz I thought that might be a factor...

I finally went to a new doctor who found that I had a prolapsed bladder -- minor, but still causing issues and it was probably from when I had my son 5 years ago.

Maybe it's the water pill... Have you been checked for diabetes or a UTI?
