cystoscopy test scared and was wondering what to expect
I am scheduled to have this test done next month I have had blood in urine for 3 years now. I have alot of pain they say is exactly pain assosiated with kidney stones but i have none.
Was just wondering if you could tell me what to expect?
And ifyou know what they are looking for by doing this?

There are two particular cysto tests(in office or in a surgery clinic). I had mine done in a surgery clinic. I had general anesthesia so I was asleep during the entire procedure. The test is to look for any lesions, ulcers or any damage done to the bladder. Also a biopsy of the bladder is done to determine if cancer is present. A cystoscopy is generally used as a tool to diagnose.
The cystoscopy done in office is a tad more uncomfortable than the one performed in a clinic or hospital. I'm told that the patient is not put to sleep for the in office procedure. The procedure is basically the same. If you have the choice to have general anesthesia please take it, the experience will be more pleasant. You go home the same day as the procedure. I basically had little to no discomfort following my procedure. I hope this helps some!

Thank you so much i know it will be in a hospital but it is a teaching hospital i go to. I hope it will not be uncomfortable after the test cause i live 3 and a half 4 hours away from there so ill have to ride quite a bit.

I'm glad to hear that the procedure will be done in a hospital. When I had mine done I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis so I did experience bladder spasms in the hospital immediately after my first urine. I was immediately given meds to calm my bladder down. If you experience any uncomfortable symptoms please tell your nurse so that she can administer something to help with that. Other than the spasms, I didn't have any pain after the procedure.

No doctor has never mentioned that Duan. I read up on it and dont know if that is whats going on. I just know something is though. Its just not right i am 32 and have accidents in pants everyday!

Im not sure what they are going to do if they feel they have to freeze or not they are going to do this and CT scan with contrast to find where the blood in urine is coming from.
