IC and starch intolerance - help

I have a starch intolerance as well as being unable to tolerate lactose. I have just been diagnosed with IC. So the foods I can't eat has just incresed again. I am at my wits end - the few foods I could have and feel good about are now even further reduced. Does anyone have any advise please?

Re: IC and starch intolerance - help

Denzle,

Does starch intolerance include all grains? Does that mean you need gluten-free products? You can live without starch and dairy, but I read that it might be possible to increase one's tolerance for lactose by consuming very little and slowly increasing the amount. Perhaps the same is true for starch.

What foods are restricted with "IC"?

There may be lots of foods you CAN eat so you might have to concentrate on finding ways to enjoy them and forget about the rest. For example, I assume you can still eat meat, fish, eggs, legumes, nuts & seeds, vegetables and fruit. You can find a lot of variety within those items. Learn to make interesting (and tasty) soups and salads.

Learn what your protein requirement is and don't overdo it. Three ounces of meat is usually enough for one meal. Then you should be able to eat all the vegetables you want, without limit.

Re: IC and starch intolerance - help

Thank you John for taking the time to respond. Unfortunatley starch does include all grains, root vegtables, legumes, most nuts, bananas and some other fruits. The IC diet excludes acidic foods - citric fruits, cranberry juice, salad dressings, tomatoes, chocolate (thats a killer!), alcohol, coffee, tea (unless its acid free) to name a few. Gluten free products are ususally a no, as they contain starch in other forms. I am trying hard to keep to fresh non root vegtables, salad leaves and protein - it is very hard especially when working away from home, which I do frequently. No starbucks for me!
