bladder polyps

about 6 years ago a urologist did a cystoscopy and found that i had bladder polyps. he was not at all concerned, said they would just cause future urine test to show blood in urine and freak doctors out. They have done just that.

Went to have a physical and Doctor is all freaked out wanting more test. Why didn't first Doctor tell me to have them removed and why wasn't he concerned. I am the one freaked out now

Re: bladder polyps

I was just diagnosed with about 4 tumors and the doctor scheduled surgery in about two weeks. He believes they are cancerous.

Re: bladder polyps

CM,

I'd suggest that you see another urologist for a second opinion. I was told I had a polyp in 2001, that they rarely become cancerous but that I could have them taken out if I wanted. At the time they were trying to figure out where the cancer in my groin lymph nodes had come from, and it definitely wasn't bladder cancer. Eventually we did all the tests, never found the primary, and I got busy with chemotherapy and radiation to treat that cancer. I forgot all about the polyp in my bladder.

4 years later I started getting blood in my urine. Had a cystoscopy and, sure enough, that polyp had turned cancerous. I was VERY lucky in that it was completely superficial and they were able to remove it and no further treatment was needed, but I had follow-up cystoscopies every 3 months for the first year, tapering down to once a year now.

It is quite possible that your polyps are just that...but you should have them checked out again.

Ruth
