Urine Looks like Grape Juice

I woke up last week and looked like I poured a glass of grape juice in the toilet. After a urinalysis, dr said some white cells, but lots of blood. Just finished 7 days of ciprofluoxin and went back for recheck. Still moderate blood in urine, although I can't see it now. Going to urologist next, but scared. My grandmother died of bladder cancer. I am 60

Can I have some kind of stones without them hurting, but still causing bleeding? I don't want to think the worse, but you know where the mind always goes.

Thanks for any input you may have

Re: Urine Looks like Grape Juice

Did they do blood work to check your kidney function? That would be my first worry. I've had stones and I never saw visible blood from it unless I had a blockage or it was passing through my ureters (ouch). I have also had just a trace a blood show up on my urinalysis when the stones weren't blocked. If they are tiny enough and not blocked, I guess you might not feel pain. Depends on where it goes. I'd think you'd still be getting waves of kidney spasms, but I don't know for sure. Are you drinking any grape juice or red wine? I used to take a beta blocker that caused my urine to go green and blue, or well I think that was the cause, doctor couldn't find any kidney or liver failure with my blood work. There is a genetic disease blood disorder porphyria in the urine may change color to brown or purple like a grape. If it isn't persistant, it's possible it may not be nothing to worry about. You have blood in your urine and a family history of bladder cancer, you need to see a urologist. They can biopsy your bladder during a cystoscopy, do a urine cytology, and make sure it's not cancer.
