Laser Turp Recovery Expectations

It will be two weeks tomorrow since I had the Biolitec Laser TURP surgery. I feel my doctor and the pamphlet from Biolitec was a bit too optimistic on the recovery time and I'd like to know if anyone else felt their urologist over simplified the proceedure. It was day surgery and I left with a cathater in, and told to remove it the next morning at home. I did that and was back in emergency to have it put back in because I could not urinate. The pain was extreme. This happened 2 more times in the next week until they left it in for 3 days before removing, while putting me on rapa flow and Uribel to control the spasms and swelling. I remain on both drugs. The nurse in emergency said that a third of the patients who come in unable to urinate, are patients of the TURP proceedure. It was very scary that first week after, and I felt I was ill prepared with no post op instructions at all, other than to take vicodon as needed and drink lots of fluid. I'm not sure if I am just expecting to have my hand held and walked thru this, or this really is more of an ordeal and life altering experience than doctors let on?
