I have a uti and it's miserable. I can't take the normal antibiotics, as I had bad reactions to cipro, and the other two in its class (leva-something, and I can't remember the other one), and I am allergic to sulfa drugs.
Is there any way to conquer the uti without prescription antibiotics?
For recurrent UTI my wife is trying a 4 month course of Cranberry extract supplements. She had to take Cipro or an equivalent antibiotics after the lab determined the type of bacteria, but we are trying to prevent recurrence naturally. Maybe you can search on this (e.g. CranMax). The recommended doses typically deliver the equivalent of many glasses of juice which I do not like to use for its sugar content. The mechanism of action seems to be that substances known as proanthocyanidins, which are found in cranberries, might avoid adhesion of bacteria such as E. coli to the walls of the urinary tract.
