Bummed out After TURP...

Had TURP Feb. 6th. Roller Coaster of stuff going on. Been 4 weeks, thought I would be going pretty good by now. When catheter came out initially, I thought I won the jackpot, but in less than a week everything turned in the opposite direction. Have to sit down when I go because I do not know if I have to urinate or have a B.M. Hard to get the pee going. I have discomfort just before it starts and when/after I finish. Had some gooey looking clots one night. Did not have any real scabs come out yet. It just seems I am actually worse off than before I got this procedure. I know it does not make sense, but I swear I am having a harder time going now than before this operation. Anyone have any words of support? Is it just too soon? Is my mind messing with me? Any words of support very very welcome, thank you. SIGH...........

Sorry asking the expected but .. what your doc say about this? Would it be possible you developed some sort of stricture aka stenosis? I am no MD hence hard to say. I would not panic but doc needs to take position, maybe he might suggest waiting a while and if necessary suggest a new procedure. Are your prescribed Flowmax or something similar before you will be getting better? Yes, it takes time and everyone is different. In my case I expect full recovery after 3-4 months only. Wishing you the best.

Re: Bummed out After TURP.....

Six week follow up, urologist not happy with flow test. He wants to get together in another 3 weeks to see if things are getting any better (he thinks maybe inflammation still). While I am there next time in three weeks if things do not improve, he is making a scope appt. for me to have at that time as well. Almost wish to hell I did not have this TURP to start with now, but considering taking flomax and or Rapaflo, I just do not know what to think?

Have to check out bni procedure now, I hope recovery is not as hard on the head as this turp was. Thank you for your reply bhp02. Are there any good threads on here with that topic? Thanks again.

Re: Bummed out After TURP.....

He wants me back for a second followup on the 15th of April. Talk about depressed and stressed out! Still hard as hell to get flow going. This time he is going to schedule a scope at the same appointment. I am anxious to see what is going on. There was a few days I thought I had her beat, but the next day I would go backward again. Off and on, the latest was yesterday, I passed some kind of tissue, so I think there is a blockage or restriction somewhere. I am just hoping whatever has to be done to correct this is not going to lay me up again for another extended period. This procedure is hard on the head I tell you. Especially when I thought, after the catheter came out and I thought I was going to breeze right through it, NOT! Oh well wish me luck all you prostate laden suckers, lol. Cheers!

Re: Bummed out After TURP.....

good luck, I think you will be OK in the long run.

Sounds like if you did have a complication, it may be easy to correct.

I had 3 days where I had trouble after the catheter came out.

Re: Bummed out After TURP.....

albed01: Did you just wait out the 3-4 months or did you get checked out prior to that and just have the faith you were going to get better? Was your problem the fact you were finding it hard to go to the bathroom, hard to get a stream going or was there some other issue?

Re: Bummed out After TURP.....

bhp02: did you just tough it out for the three days or did you end up going back in for a catheter?

Re: Bummed out After TURP.....

it would have hurt like hell to have to re catheter .
I had a problem with flow and retension...but peed alittle at a time. little scary when I got home,,, did not know if I had to go to emergencie.

at times I only peed 50 ml , then tried again after 20 mins.

Re: Bummed out After TURP.....

So you did not have to go back to hospital? How are you going now, like a racehorse?

Re: Bummed out After TURP.....

its only 4 weeks, alittle hesitant to start, 30 seconds.... at low volumes 150 mls or less, once it starts, its great, though I get some retention at times.

if my bladder is,full like greater than 300 ml, no hesitation to start.

its still bit uncomfortable during the stream, but almost no resistance .

I think the flow is like a race horse,, though it is uncomfortable still.
