Feral Kitten Bite - Rabies Shots - Ridiculous price

My husband was bitten on the little finger by a feral kitten. He treated it and waited a week until his hand swelled then went to the hospital. They admitted him for 3 days and gave him massive amounts of antibiotics. Then sent him home with more antibiotics. He was then sent to the ER 4 times for the rabies shots. The first one included the Immune Globulin.

We received a bill for the hospital stay and paid our portion. Then the hospital sent us a bill for the 4 ER visits. They are charging us $1961.73 for each rabies shot and $23,948.47 for the Immune Globulin shot. Our portion is $5488.00. I'm livid over this.

I don't think he needed the Immune Globulin shot since (from what I read) this shot is suppose to rapidly get the antibodies in you until the actual shot takes effect which is a day or two. It had already been 3 weeks from the bite. I also believe they should have informed us that the shot was almost $24,000.00 before they gave it to him.

What recourse do we have? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
