Unhappy Why is Shingles Vaccine not recommended for people with PHN?

Just read that the shingles vaccine is not recommended during pregnancy or for anyone with a weakened immune systemt. I have been suffering from very severe PHN pain for the past year (after Shingles ended) and today, I was given my first Shingles vaccine.

Now I'm worried and would like to know why people who have already developed PHN are not supposed to take the Shingles vaccine. My doctor thinks it's a good idea for me not to get another case of Shingles again.

Thank you.

As I understand the guidelines, it isn't contraindicated for people who have PHN, the wording on the insert states that it isn't intended for the treatment of PHN.
Those are different things.

Re: Why is Shingles Vaccine not recommended for people with PHN?

Thank you, midwest1, for taking the time to answer my question. The Shingles vaccine didn't do me any harm. The injection site was only slightly itchy and a little swollen for about a day. As expected, it did not reduce the existing PHN pain. I just hope that it will help to prevent a Shingles recurrence or at least reduce the odds. I read somewhere that 8% of the people get Shingles a second time.
