Re: Whooping cough vaccination
You are so right Misty. The new Tdap booster, licensed in 2005, is reccomended for adolescents 11 through 18 years as a one time booster instead of the regular Td booster normally given. A 2 year interval is reccomended since the last DTap or Td vaccination. Adults 19 through 64 should substitute Tdap for one booster dose of Td. As a child, you get the DTap vaccine until age 7 and the Td after that. With the re-occurence of whooping cough due to the waning immunity after your last Pertussis containing DTaP vaccination at age 7, the Tdap vaccine was developed. I just had mine at my last physical. The only side effect would be the same as a regular Td booster which may be a sore arm.
