You should be up to date on your MMR (Measles,Mumps,Rubella), Td (Tetanus/Diptheria) and you should also get an adult Polio booster....you should also get the Hepatitis A & B vaccination (if you haven't already had the series), Typhoid and Yellow Fever vaccinations. If you are expecting to be in rural areas/outdoors, getting the pre-exposure Rabies vaccinations is a good idea. The hepatitis A/B vaccine is given at 0,1 & 6 months so try to get at least two doses before departure. Typhoid and Yellow Fever are one shot each, the Yellow Fever good for 10 years. The Rabies vaccinations are given at day 0,7 and 21 (or 28) so you would want to get the complete series before you depart. None of these vaccinations are particularly painful. They are given in the upper arm. Just remember to relax your arm. Have a great trip!
