New flu vaccine for seniors?

I'm not sure if I want to get this years flu vaccine. Last year I took care of my 17 year old niece with H1N1.I didn't catch it and neither did my husband. Then I had read some information saying that older people probably have an immunity to it. Does anyone know if there is a flu shot without the H1N1 in it. I really don't want to get the new one because I don't need both and why put more garbage in my system...Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you

Re: New flu vaccine for seniors?

All of the 2010 flu vaccines in the US use the same strains, one of which is the one that caused so much concern last year.

The "special flu vaccine for seniors" contains four times the amount of antigens in order to stimulate the immune system more. It is not yet known if it actually reduces the risk of flu compared to the normal vaccine.

Re: New flu vaccine for seniors?

According to a systematic review of the scientific literature conducted by the scientific journal, The Lancet:

"In elderly individuals living in the community, vaccines were not significantly effective against influenza, influenza-like illness, or pneumonia"
and in conclusion:
"... according to reliable evidence the usefulness of vaccines in the community is modest."
