Grey hair at 14. Vitamin Deficiency? - Vitamins & Supplements Message Board

Hi there everybody, am hoping somebody can help. My son (who is now 17) started developing little patches of grey hair at 14 yrs old. He has since read that it can be caused by vitamin deficiency. Does anybody know what vitamin??? I had previously thought it to be heriditary ( my mum was grey at 24) but maybe he is lacking in something.

I too started turning grey at 18 and I believe it is hereditary as my birth mother greyed early also...according to my adoption records.
I take 100 mg complex B per day and have been told that that is 1 of the vitamins missing that causes the change in colour. Many studies have been done of late in Canada. Last year a gene team found the gene that causes premature 'pigmnent loss'. They hope to have it mapped and be able to 'fix' it in about 10 years.

My son is 9 years old and he has 3 grey hairs. And I too started to at 18. So I wonder why we get grey hair at so early age? Maybe is true, maybe it is hereditary...Who knows??

The only reason I suspect the heriditary reason to be questionable is that normally when you go grey it is sprinkled throughout an area. these little grey patches are little circles of perhaps 20 hairs. I guess time will tell. I may take him to a naturopath who should know if it is vitamin deficiency or heriditary.
