Several recent articles in peer-reviewed medical journals suggest that chromium picolinate may not be as safe as other forms of chromium such as chromium polynicotinate or chromium chloride. There is evidence that chromium polynicotinate is the best form.
Many experiments have shown that chromium picolinate has a mutagenic effect on cells, whereas chromium polynicotinate (niacin-bound) does not.
On the other hand, many clinical trials have shown that chromium picolinate does not have any consistent side effects. The mutagenic acitivty would probably take years to have an overall impact in promoting cancer development, but that is my speculation. Hope this was helpful.
