Question vitamin A

I have a question regarding vitamin A. How much is too much? is 10000 iu a day too much? Im taking 5000 iu regular vitamin A, and another supplement that says 5000iu vitamin A 100% as beta carotene. I dont know if the beta carotene one counts as a total of 10000iu since its already in useful form, correct? Thank you for your info

Beta-Carotene is a provitamin A, which means that your body will convert it to Vitamin A as needed. Therefore, you cannot overdose on Beta-Carotene. Vitamin A is another story, since it is fat-soluble. Precisely how much is too much can vary among individuals, and also depends on body weight. But you are certainly not in any danger of overdosing with the amounts you are taking. Let me put it this way: No one has ever reported any kind of damage in an adult who is taking up to 50,000 units of Vitamin A daily in a food supplement in addition to what he gets in food.

HeyThere HB User
Post

try a search engine Y for vitamin A toxic effects. You'll come across hypervitamintosis (sp?). read it. If you are female and of child bering age don't overdue it, I read somewhere too much is a major no no when pregnant for the sake of the child.

If toxic effects of Vit A were really a serious threat to your health --it would have been removed By the FDA long ago.

I read several years ago that 1 person took 100,000 IUs daily before they has a toxic side-effect.

You cannot overdose on Beta Carotene since your liver converts what you need to Vitamin-A.----- Taking 10,000 IUs of VIT A is OK most 25,000 A pills have been taken off the market. The Vit-A you buy should also contain Vitamin D--- you need that for calcium absorption.
