Angry Vitamins for the brain

Can anyone reccomend any vitamins for the brain? I have this problem of remembering & paying attention to study materials. I am 20 years old! Thanks

Re: Vitamins for the brain

Hello, I read somewhere that salmon is brain food due to the fatty omega 3 oils. Maybe that's why my son is why too smart? Kinko Bola is supposed to be good for the memory also. I find that meditation and logic puzzles work the best for me. (Exercising the brain.)

Another idea is to figure out what conditions your brain works best and what kind of learner you are. (Kinestetic, visual, audio, etc.) Some people study best with low level background noise, while other people need their environment to be absolutely quiet. Some people need to record their notes onto a tape recorder and listen to the notes in the car or at night. Some people need to write things down numberous times for something to sink into their brain. Others use flash card, neumonic devices, colors, etc.

Omega-3 fish oils, DMAE, a multivitamin, alpha lipoic acid, NAC (n-acetyl cysteine, co-q10, additional B vitamins mix, l-tyrosine.
green tea. a health diet in general.
You'll find that those help more than just your mind.

For less natural, herbal solutions: (siberian) ginseng, ginko biloba, maybe st john's wort and kava kava.

I recently got a perscription for adderal, it helps tremendously with paying attention and studying.

Re: Vitamins for the brain

Dave,
I was looking at this thread, as I'm interested in the benefits of Omega-3 Fish Oil. If I take the Acetyl L-Carnitine, and it crosses the blood-brain barrier, will this help in the absorption of the Omega-3? I'm trying to find some high-quality, effective brain vitamins, myself. What are some quality brands?

I like and use Carlson Omega 3. My Doctor recommended 2400mg daily.

in addition to the other coments. gota kula and sage leaf are both brain tonics. i find sage leaf to be particularly effective. american ginseng is the best ginseng for the brain. rosemary, basil and grapefruit essentail oils are good too. L-glutamine is the "brain fuel" amino acid.

Re: Vitamins for the brain

minded, some vitamins might help alittle.
But I would definitely use Dexedrine.
You have to get that prescribed.

I'm using 1000 MG Flax Seed, 1200MG Soya Lecithin and B12 along with
Dexedrine.

MindED, If you were not 20 I would suggest supplements and/or Vitamins for your "Problem". But since you are 20 it is unlikley that you need these........
Sounds like you are not getting enough sleep or that you are worrying (or partying) too much.... The Worry part may be the culprit ????? However, I still think it is wise to take Vitamins and Supplements, even at your young age.

Re: Vitamins for the brain

I don't know if it actually works but I read in one vitamin ad that suggested that Lecithin is "brain food" so you may want to look that up. There are several supplements out now that supposedly help with problems with concentration, attention, learning, etc. Basically, they're supposed to boost your mental and brain's abilities. Don't know how well they work, though.

Re: Vitamins for the brain

Hi ppl . thanks for the great help but i think my problem is my severe irratable bowel syndrome . I go to the toilet about 10 - 15 times a day & i have resorted to eating raw vegetale / fruits . I think that is my problem . Nothing gets absorbed in me , i have been to many doctors / specialists / tried many vitamins / meds / etc ... nothing i do seems to help ... this is the most hardest thing to live with when you eat & the next 2- 5 minutes you can feel your stomach working & the next thing you can feel yourself running to the toilet . Nothing i eat stays inside me . Food is much worse as i feel bloated / sick & everything else . Anyways - it would be great if something could stay inside my stomach / get absorbed & i could feel normal .

THanks Peeps

Re: Vitamins for the brain

There is an awesome book by David Perlmutter called The Better Brain Book. It covers all the necessary supplements and antioxidants that our brain needs. It has the damage that we do daily without realizing it-through habits of food, meds, etc that causes lapse in memory, brain fog, etc by the time we reach 30's, 40,'s and up. We can keep our brain sharp and even reverse what has been done. A lot of what "stevetobias" mentioned as supplements are in the book as well. You might get a lot out of reading it. I sure have. I got it because I was having the same problems you have indicated.
