Mastic Gum is a natural resin from the Pistacia lentiscus tree (an evergreen shrub from the pistachio tree family), which is found on the Island of Chios in Greece.
Apparently it has a protective effect on the stomach and kills even resistant strains of H-pylori, the bacteria that is responsible for stomach ulcers.
In other studies, mastic gum provided symptomatic relief of ulcers, reduced the intensity of gastric mucosal damage caused by anti-ulcer drugs and aspirin, and possessed antacid and cytoprotective qualities.
Apparently there are no side effects with it.
