Question How many vitamins to take--20 + per day?

I've heard some people take huge quantities of vitamins/supplements every day, like 20 or more different pills a day. Example: a multi, C, E, cal-mag-zinc, selenium, K, fish oil, flax oil, echnechia, B complex, calcium, garlic, milk thistle, saw palmetto, ginsing, CoQ10, chromium picolonate, alpha lin acid, lutein, etc.

If someone eats a healthy diet, is this necessary, or a waste of time and money? Don't most people simply take a good multi-vitimin?

Re: How many vitamins to take--20 + per day?

Everyone needs to take a good basic multi, ideally one that is meant to be taken atleast twice a day with a meal. This will usually cover the bases for some of the essential nutrients you list (E, B-complex, zinc). If a person is taking a slew of other supplements as you suggest, they either have: very deep pockets (to afford the "good" stuff); are taking very poor quality suppelements (because they are fooling themselves and can't afford the "good"stuff); or are treating some disease/disorder with natural medicine which would mandate consumption of them. I find that many people take far too many supplements, not realizing that their money is better spent on a couple/few good quality supplements that support the body as a whole and spend the rest on better foods rather than shooting in the dark with a multitude of inferior supplements. I've also seen many people invest their paycheck in supplements and little to none on activites that feed the mind and spirit, all of which enhance a healthy body. In many cases less can mean more.
