Are these too many vitamins to take in a day?

After much reading, I finally settled on a multi-vitamin. I have purchased TwinLab Daily Two Caps WithOUT Iron. Are these too strong? Most of the % exceed the RDA, but I know that is OK with most vitamins.

Also, I want my 14 year old daughter to start taking a multi...would this be too much for her? (she weighs 105 pounds) Maybe I should just have her take one per day (then the % would be 1/2 of what I have listed below).

I asked my doc, and she said "just take a multi everyday plus fish oil."

No, I don't think it's too much. It appears to be a very good quality, high potency multi-vitamin to me. By the way, is the Vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene?

Hi Arizona73, thanks for your reply. I just checked the vitamin bottle...the Vitamin A says 100% from Beta Carotene. From what I read, that's what I want, correct?

Do you think this is too high of a dose to give to my 14 year old 105 pound daughter? So far I've been having her only take one capsule...plus she takes Calcium supplements too and one fish oil capsule a day (Fisol brand).

Thanks! :)

Miriam, since the vitamin A is in the form of beta-carotene, you've got nothing to worry about. Beta-Carotene is known as Provitamin A, which essentially means that it will convert to vitamin A in your body as it is needed. So, you cannot overdose on beta-carotene. Now, vitamin A which is derived from fish liver oils is another story.

I'd ask a professional and not us message board hacks :jester: , especially if it's concerning your child. Prevention magazine had an article listing the maximums for adults, and btw, 50,000 IU of Beta Carotene is the max. You can overdose on anything, if you take enough of it, even water.

Although most healthy people can probably get along fine with 25,000-50,000 IU, much higher dosages have been used for certain conditions. No vitamin A overdose can occur with beta carotene. Because beta carotene is not converted to vitamin A except as the body requires it, you cannot get toxic levels of vitamin A (hypervitaminosis) from it.
