there is someone named chris something in the addison section of this board who has been taking dhea in pretty high doses for a while. you should read his post.
i, being a female, take pregnenolone and a small dose of dhea. preg is usually recommended for women b/c it converts more readily into progesterone. i have tried taking about 150 mg. a day and it seems to improve my energy levels (i believe i have mild adrenal insufficiency). i don't take it all the time b/c it is best to cycle hormones. i feel that for me to continue using a dose that high (150 mg.) is just a waste of money b/c it didn't seem to have the same effect the next day when i tried it again. i honestly wish there were more research done on these two hormones.
I've never noticed any side effects thoug I've been takining it about 5 years....both 50 mg. for awhile...then 25mg.
Nothing much positive or negative!
Zip, no side effects, but have you noticed the desired effects? If so, what are your expectations of the DHEA? Ever had your testosterone levels / hormone levels tested while on it? I had mine tested a year ago, but was told to stop the DHEA a month beforehand. I would love to be able to get measured again, while taking it, plus while taking tribulus like I have been. (truth be told, the tribulus really does effect my libido, in a positive way).
Anyhoo, I take it to cover possibilities of decreasing male hormones with age. Last testosterone was 3 years ago and it was a decently respectable 636ng/dL (Normal: 241-827). I was hoping to get "the patch" prescribed but no such luck. I think I was taking DHEA at the time of the testing.
I am counting the few years til Social Security but manage to carry plenty of muscle on a large frame (though less than 2 decades ago) and do regular weightlifting and look pretty presentable in a pair of Speedos. So maybe the DHEA is making a good contribution?
Sometimes though I feel like the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dike, holding back the sea. It's tough to fight a battle where the outcome is known and the loss is certain...but fight I do!
I will use your recommendation and give tribulus a try- I need a libido boost. What kind of dosing do you use?
Last year, I tried 750mg tribulus/day and didn't notice anything. This spring, I've been going with 1g/day and that has done the trick! It helps me desire sex more than without it, which is what libido is all about anyway. If I'm feeling especially tired, or worn out from my running, I'll pop a viagra the evening we're supposed to get physically intimate, but I take the tribulus daily. I even noticed a decrease in libido a day after missing taking it. Came back the next day when I took it again.
As far as the DHEA, I don't really know that I've noticed a difference. I'm in the process of stopping it for a few weeks, just to see if I notice a difference. I'm down to 25mg a day, from 50+. Slowly decreasing the amount in case my body needs to make up for it. (I had read something about cycling hormonal supplements...) I'm 41 and my testosterone was 470 1.5 yrs ago before taking any supplements, and 510 1 year ago after I had been taking protein shakes but had stopped all tribulus, etc herbs and DHEA a month before that appointment.
