| Re: Social Anxiety Herbs
Our 18 year old nephew started taking vitamins for various problems and it helped so much that his teachers started commenting about how he had started to participate in class, (because before he would never say anything in the class discussions) and the days he forgot to take them his friends could tell just by the way he acted and they would say "Go home and take your pills." (Meaning vitamin pills.) We had told him to try the vitamins because they are helping our son with different problems. Here is what we recommended for our nephew that helped so much if you want to give it a try:
B complex, B-50 is good. 1 once or twice a day
extra niacin or niacinamide, niacin will make you flush, when you flush you know you have enough. Niacinamide does not make you flush. If you take more than your body needs you will feel queasy or nauseated, but even if you take enough to make yourself throw up it won't do you any harm, it isn't dangerous. You can try starting with 250 mg a day with meals and work up to the amount that makes you feel a little nauseated and then go down to the next lower amount. As your body replenishes your niacin stores your need will go down gradually and you have to lower the dose. Some people need a couple of grams a day at first. Niacin or niacinamide is important for your anxiety because it helps the body not to produce too much adrenaline, which makes you feel anxious. It does that because it is a "methyl donor". I have no idea what that is. The doctor told me that yesterday and I thought it sounded impressive so I threw it in. Maybe some of you know what a methyl donor is. At bedtime plain niacin instead of niacinamide works best for helping you get to sleep, but you may get a flush, you have to experiment to find what works best for you. I find a little flush is good for feeling relaxed at bedtime, but other people don't.
Zinc 25-30 mg twice a day.
Vitamin C does incredible things for you. It cures my husband's asthma, it makes my son much more able to socialize with people. It keeps colds away. Take it a minumun of twice a day in an amount that almost gives you diarrhea, this is called the bowel tolerance level and it changes depending on how much stress you are under at a particular time, including stresses that you may not be aware of such as exposure to toxins in the air or exposure to allergens. You can look up Vitamin C bowel tolerance online to learn more. You will probably need at least 10 grams a day to get good results. You could try taking 5 grams (5000mg) in the morning and 5 grams at night and see how that makes you feel.
If you don't remember your dreams or if you want to have more vivid dreams take vitamin B6, pyridoxine, from 100-500 mg. If you take too much over a long period of time you can experience numbness in the hands, but it goes away when you lower the dose. Remembering your dreams is normal and if you don't remember them it is a sign you need B6.
Omega oils are good too, if you take the capsules you can't tell if they are rancid. Twinlab has an emulsified fish oil that tastes pretty good. and Coramega tastes good too.
There are other vitamins that are good to take for general health, but these are the ones that I think you will find most helpful for your problem. I don't have any information on herbs so I can't help you there.
