GNC's Ultra Mega Gold... too potent? - Vitamins & Supplements Message Board

Hey Guys.

Ever since I’ve begun taking this multivitamin supplement (about 3 weeks now), I’ve wondered if its potencies for some of the included vitamins were a little too much. I’m an 18-year-old male. The supplement in question is GNC’s Ultra Mega Gold without Iron. The following are its contents and potencies. Please review them carefully.

Now, when the %DV reaches the 1000’s, I can only hope GNC knew what it was doing when it made this supplement, for I do not want to be reaching toxic levels of anything. Can the body flush out what it doesn’t want? Does it depend on the vitamin? I want to improve my health, not damage it.

You are fine. You will probably get better absorption if you take one capsule in the morning and one at night. Vitamin A can build up in the body but not when it is taken as as beta carotene and the dose of A you are taking as vitamin A isn't too high. Vitamin D can build up, but your vitamins only have 100% so that isn't a problem either. The vitamins in your capsules that have high looking dosages because they have 1000% or more of the DV are easy for your body to excrete what it doesn't want so you are fine there. It is normal to have bright yellow urine when you supplement the B vitamins, so don't worry about that if you are worried about it.

Wow... you took the words right out of my mouth with the brighter urine Kime. I was debating whether to actually ask that, but decided against it. I knew it was due to the supplements... but wasn't sure if it was necessarily a good or bad thing. Thanks for that. Also, thanks for the rest of your input, you've surely dismissed my worries regarding high intakes. Thanks again.

I have teenaged boys and so I figured the urine color was worrying you even though you didn't mention it!
