What is a safe dose of iron to take each day? I had been having a problem with having diarrhea and someone one on the board said that iron can make you constipated. I started taking it and it is making me normal. I go once a day or twice instead of having diarrhea for hours every day. I have read about the dangers of having too much iron and that can be dangerous. So what is a safe level?
Too much iron is dangerous! It should only be taken by people whose blood work shows they are deficient in it. It should not be taken for any other reason. Constipation is a side affect of taking iron and should not be used to regulate your bowel movements. You should see a doctor to find out what is causing your problem to begin with, then get treated accordingly.
I know my diarrhea is from medication I take for endometriosis. So right now I am just trying to counteract the problem. I started using oatmeal and bananas and other types of foods to slow my system down. I am getting really sick of those foods and am trying to research other foods that will help also. I eat those in the morning and then eat whatever I feel like in the afternoon but my system is very touchy.
Are headaches a side effect of taking iron? I got really bad headaches when I was taking it. It might have been a coincidence. I just never get headaches like that and I only had the headache on the days I had taken iron.
