Exclamation PreNatal Vitamins

I was told to take PreNatal vitamins and have been doing so for a long time. When I stopped taking them for a month I got depressed and had no energy...I also gained 15 lbs. Once I started taking them again I lost 7 lbs. so far. I'm wondering if the weight gain was because I stopped taking the vitamin. Also, is it bad that I am taking it since I'm not pregnant??? I do have a history of depression and have found that I seem to "wake up" when taking the vitamin everyday...is that even possible or all in my mind?? Is there something else I can use to keep me from spending all day in my room??? I feel like I hide and have no energy to do anything...almost as if I'm sick. When I am up and going I am very energetic and most people would be shocked to know my life away from work...I don't want to go to the doctor. Can anyone help???

Re: PreNatal Vitamins

It is clear that you need to take vitamins, it is NOT in your mind, but I don't think they have to be prenatal vitamins if you want to stop taking them. Look at the label and see what they have in them and then you can look for a regular multi-vitamin that has about as much of each vitamin in it except that you may be better off not taking any iron, it is possible to get too much iron stored in your body. It is an absolute fact that depression can be caused by a lack of certain vitamins and if you feel better taking vitamins, why worry when they are helping you? You might even want to add a B complex such as a B-50 capsule and some omega oils such as Carlson's cod liver oil (that tastes bad) or Coromega (that tastes like orange candy) plus some extra vitamin C and niacin (which can make you flush) or niacinamide (non flush) to see if they help you feel even better. If you go to a health food store they can help you find brands that don't have additives in them. Online stores are a good choice, too, they usually show what is in the products so that you can make sure they don't have gluten or sugar or other additives in them.

Re: PreNatal Vitamins

I honestly think that maybe the fact that they have so much iron in them is what helps me. Maybe not but I don't eat a lot of things that are a good source of iron and at times have wondered if I could be suffering from iron deficiancy..only because I bruise easily, get hiccups quite often, and I don't have a lot of energy...but then again it would just be best to find out from a dr. I just really really don't want to go to one...

Re: PreNatal Vitamins

Easy bruising and fatigue are both signs of vitamin C deficiency, although they can occur with anemia, too. Try doing a web search on vitamin C and bruising. If you try taking a couple of grams of vitamin C a day it should only take a week or two at the most to see if it is helping with the bruising. (I actually take about 10 grams a day, myself, in 3 doses.)

WOW! I hope you drink a lot of water, as I thought that high doseages of vit-C are linked to kidney stones. How long have you been taking 10g/day?
