vitamins and sense of taste...

Could regular usage of vitamin supplements affect your sense of taste? I don't mean a decrease in sense of taste, but more of an alteration, in that certain foods you've consumed normally before might start to taste slightly different.

Has anyone even heard that this might be possible?

I look forward to any feedback. Thanks!

Re: vitamins and sense of taste...

It's possible, but not as likely unless you're taking megadoses.

The other possibility would be medications, smoking, virus, infection..etc.

Have you been sucking on zinc losenges lately?

Re: vitamins and sense of taste...

Actually, I have had a couple of zinc lozenges one day this past week, but I don't think that was the culprit. I started a vitamin regimen of sorts about 3 or 4 weeks ago, though. A multivitamin, anti-oxidant supplement, vitamin C, and magnesium/calcium. What would constitute a "megadose"?

Thanks for the reply!

Re: vitamins and sense of taste...

above a theraputic dosage I would think.

It doesn't sound as though you're taking that....but could it be that the vitamins are "enhancing" your taste buds?

Just a thought....
