Should I use creatine?

I am thinking about taking creatine to get some more muscle but dont know much abaout it. I have a few basic questions: Are there any side effects? Does it make you put on weight? How often and how much should I take? Any other advice anyone wants to shed on the subject would be awesome. i am very curious and would appreciate any comments. Thanks.

Re: Should I use creatine?

ok,creatine is one of those suppliments that works while your on it but when you are off of it you will drastically move back to your original size..its feeds your muscles with water so you'll look big n bulky when your takin it....i took 40 dayz of creatine and i have to say it made me stronger and a bit bigger while i was on it but it really was not worth the money in the long run..but every body is different and it is up to you if you would like to take it or not!BTW It might break you out cuz it did to me and if you decide to take it make sure you intake alotta water (i had like 5-8 bottles a day)

Re: Should I use creatine?

perfect question for me

agent gold i was once in ur spot now after readin about creatine and combining that knowledge with what i learned in bio class...i have got some info for you

creatine first off is made in the body from 3 amino acids...our body uses it as a quick source of energy for activity at full out for about 3-15s....when taken it is 'phosphorylated' by the liver (now called creatine phosphate) and then uptaken by the muscle cells this phosphate is the key....the bond between the phosphate group and the creatine molecule is packed with high energy electrons...and when we lift our max on the bench or we sprint (full out activites)...this bond is broken inside the cell releasing tons of energy for us to use...hence ppl say they get more energy from it....now im sure you have heard of ATP also...thats the other powerful energy molecule in our cells ATP and Creatine Phosphate stores are vital for qucik bursts of energy,, and as well ATP is used all day long to keep us going (with ATP the same is true with the phosphate and its bond to another phosphate ATP = adenosine TRI (3) phosphate)

water retention & creatine....lets say i take a piece of potato and wedged it into a glass and put water on either side of the potato so its at equal amounts on either side of it.....now i add salt to one side of the glass (salt in this case is called a 'solute')....strangely if we observe the glass from eye level the water seems to travel to the side where the salt was dissolved...lowering the amnt of water on the opposite side of the glass...this is called 'osmosis' --->movement of water acrosss a membrane (the potato) water moved to balance the concentration of solute on either side of the potato....

THAT being said...all this 'creatine makes u swell with water oh my god its amazing!" stuff we read...is just our bodies way of homeostasis (maintaing an internal balance) when creatine is brought in the muscles, its like dumping the salt in the one side of the glass....water naturally flows into the muscle cell to balance the concentration of solute inside the cell (the creatine) so dont be thrilled by this claim......because loading up on carbs does the same beacause water goes into ur muslces...making u look full

this was long and u got a good bio lesson lol

now should you take creatine.....i took it and once i finish what i have im never bying it again....IT DOESNT MAKE U GROW MUSCLE! its purely an evergy source, a reserve, for ur body u dont need it cause we naturally produce it....save ur money and buy a good protein shake...cause they taste fu**in* good!

hope that helps
nick
